A tram accident at Universal Studios Hollywood has resulted in injuries to several passengers. The incident occurred on a Saturday evening when the tram, engaged in a tour of the movie studio backlot, crashed into a railing while negotiating a turn. This collision caused the last car of the four-car tram to hit a metal guardrail, leading to it tilting and ejecting multiple passengers.
The Los Angeles County Fire Department responded to the scene at the theme park located in Universal City, approximately 10 miles northwest of downtown Los Angeles. A total of 15 individuals were transported to hospitals with injuries, most of which were reported as minor. However, the California Highway Patrol noted that some injuries were moderate, although they did not specify how many.
A spokesperson for Universal Studios Hollywood confirmed that there were multiple minor injuries but did not provide further details on the accident. Sheriff’s Lt. Maria Abal mentioned that there might have been an issue with the tram’s brakes, and the highway patrol is currently leading the investigation. They have ruled out alcohol and drugs as factors in the accident.
This accident comes just as the park is gearing up to celebrate the 60th anniversary of its World-Famous Studio Tour. This tour offers guests a behind-the-scenes look at the making of Universal movies, including classics like
“Jaws” and Jordan Peele’s “Nope.” The celebration for this landmark event is set to start this coming Friday.
