Acclaimed actor Michael Stuhlbarg found himself at the center of a disturbing incident on the streets of New York City. Known for his roles in “Boardwalk Empire” and “Dopesick,” Stuhlbarg was reportedly assaulted while out for a jog in Manhattan.
The incident occurred on Sunday evening, as Stuhlbarg was jogging along East 90th and East Drive. According to police reports, the actor was struck in the back of the neck with a rock by a 27-year-old homeless man named Xavier Israel. Despite suffering an abrasion, Stuhlbarg bravely pursued his attacker on foot.
The pursuit led Stuhlbarg to the front of the Russian Consulate, where NYPD units apprehended Israel without incident. He was subsequently charged in the assault, adding to his prior arrests for assault and robbery earlier this year.
Stuhlbarg, however, declined medical attention following the attack. A representative for the actor has not yet responded to requests for comment on the incident.

Fans of Stuhlbarg will recognize him for his compelling portrayal of Arnold Rothstein in the HBO series “Boardwalk Empire,” a role that earned him critical acclaim. He has also received praise for his performances in “Dopesick” and “Call Me by Your Name.”
Beyond his screen work, Stuhlbarg has an impressive theater background, with notable roles in Broadway productions such as “The Pillowman,” for which he received a Tony Award nomination. He is set to return to the stage in “Patriots,” where he will take on the role of Russian oligarch Boris Berezovsky.
The limited run of “Patriots” will begin on April 1, with the official opening scheduled for April 22. Audiences can catch Stuhlbarg’s captivating performance through June 23.”
