Will Smith’s Oscar Smackdown

Must Read

Sunday night, seismologists scrambled to locate the source of the sudden spike of seismic activity on the Richter scale only to pinpoint it’s unlikely origin: the stage of the 2022 Academy Awards.

“The Smack Heard Round The World” is what they’re calling it.

Last night, Will Smith went onstage to hit Chris Rock after the comedian made a dig about his wife’s shaved head.

Following the incident, countless comedians took to Twitter to condemn Smith’s actions. Rob Reiner said “There is no excuse for what he did.” While Kathy Griffin posted, “It’s a very bad practice to walk up on stage and physically assault a comedian.”

Sure, in a perfect world where logic rules over emotion and our playground conflict resolution lessons kick in, I can see that going differently. But this is not that world, and I can’t truly condemn Smith for his actions.

When is the last time someone insulted your spouse on national television? Didn’t think so…

Everyone wants to say how they would have handled the situation in the air of their 20/20 hindsight, far removed from the situation. Everyone wants to point fingers from atop their high horses, forgetting the fact that celebrities are human beings, prone to defensiveness, anger and a protective nature. The difference being of course, that their lives are displayed for the world to see and our less than proud moments are confined to our lives outside of the public eye.

Take a moment to think about what you would do if someone took a dig at your spouse in front of the world?

I believe it was Confucius who said “He who f*#keth around, will soon make a discovery.” And that Chris Rock did, but to his credit, he took that hit like a champ so we’re calling this a tie.
