November 2, 1984- Marvin Gaye Sr. sentenced to a six-year suspended sentence for the killing of his son, singer Marvin Gaye.

On the afternoon of April 1, 1984, music legend, Marvin Gaye intervened in a fight between his parents in their Los Angeles family home. He became involved in a physical altercation with his father, who then shot him twice, once in the chest, piercing his heart and then in the shoulder. The first shot proved fatal and Gaye was pronounced dead at 1:01pm after he arrice at California Hospital Medical Center. The next day would have been his 45th birthday.

Gaye Sr. was initially charged with first degreed murder, but after he was diagnosed with a brain tumor, his charges were reduced to voluntary manslaughter.
