Nashville-based singer/songwriter Sean C. Kennedy is back with the release of his brand new single, “Hurts To See You Go.”
As a child, the Scottish-born singer’s life was always surrounded by music, however, he first successfully pursued a career as a professional soccer player. After suffering a career-ending knee injury, Sean found his voice and his talent for songwriting.
Fast forward to 2022 where Sean is making a name for himself as one of Nashville’s rising stars.
With the poignant new release, the introspective singer/songwriter builds on the digital success of 2020 EP ‘Let Life Love You’ which was home to a number of singles that landed on Apple Music playlists including Apple Today, New Music Daily, Mellow Days, and Acoustic Chill, and this track is expected to garner more DSP success for the hitmaker.
‘Hurts To See You Go’ is a pensive indie pop-rock offering that allows Sean C. Kennedy to delve into his sonic inspirations with a thought-provoking lyrical story arc that paints a picture of feeling lost and torn up when you begin to realize that your lover is ready to walk away without a second glance, and trying to fight to hold onto the fragments of the relationship.

Terah: Give our readers some insight into yourself and your sound…
Sean: I’m a Scottish singer-songwriter, guitarist, recording artist and producer living in Nashville Tennessee. I came here in 2014, was on and off for four years. I’ve been writing and recording with signed and unsigned artists. Since moving here full time in 2018 I released two EP’s in 2020 and 2021 driven by a singer-songwriter pop sound. This new music in 2022 “Hurts To See You Go” is a gradual levitation adding more electric guitar, touch of synth and more bite, carries more of an indie pop singer singer. As if Coldplay and the killers came to my birthday party…
Terah: What lead you to a career in music?
Sean: I played football (soccer) most of my days and turned to music after having four operations. One was a stem cell bone transplant. A very interesting and painful process. In recovery, I discovered a voice in music and turned my attention to it. Fronting a band back in Scotland, picking up guitar, and writing. Then one thing led to another. There were a lot of Forrest Gump moments that happened for sure. Letting me know I’m on the right path, following my gut..
Terah: You are passionate about mental health, how has your life experience shaped your passion in this area?
Sean: I watched my mum go through depression after my grandpa passed away. I was only 19 at the time so I got to really see and understand what depression was. As an empath too I felt for my mum and didn’t want to watch her go through such a thing. But to see her overcome through time, and treatment (Bi Aura – an old ancient energy healing) was a beautiful thing. I know some people struggle to make it out. I then fell into my own depression, having four operations and having an identity crisis being told I couldn’t playing footy again. Through physical therapy and being in that state of deep rest, music found a way through me and a voice appeared. My uncle also suffered from schizophrenia most of his life. Friends attempted suicide, some ones didn’t make it. It’s a world where we really should be able to be there for one another as we all have our days. I’m very thankful for the people in my life. I’ve started a mens mental health podcast with my best friend Rob Ricotta that will launch start of next year. Helping men to be open and talk more, express themselves knowing it’s ok to be emotional. With the help from womens perspective. It’s called “let life love you podcast”
Terah: Tell us about your new single, “Hurts To See You Go”
Sean: I wrote this song at the start of the year with my best mate Rob Ricotta. I had a hook from years ago in another song and decided to try it in another idea on piano on thanksgiving 2021. We knew it was something right away then we finally got in the room at the start of this year and it poured out. “Hurts to see you go” is full of nostalgia and pulls you in with its tempo and punch, blended with an old Yamaha PSS 470 that I got for $100. It was actually made the year I was born 1987. So I know it was the right thing to do. Full of hooks, infectious melodys and heart felt lyrics of being ok with getting over someone. Terah: What do you hope for listeners to glean from this song?
Sean: Bringing back nostalgia. Taking you to a place that made you feel something for someone whether that lasted or not. The pace of the song wants to make you get in the car and drive. It’s a bop! Try tell me it’s not?!
Bridge: What is ahead for you?
Sean: I’m excited about this full album and “hurts to see you go” was the perfect song to put out first. Bringing all my influences through me but with my blend to make it modern. Excited about our podcast. I’ve recently started acting some more and looking forward to being more involved in film. Always been a goal of mine and right now everything seems to be falling into place. I’m just letting it unfold. I won’t ask the how. Just let it flow…
