Rich Boy James

Must Read

Rich Boy James takes an eclectic approach to his music…

Mixing hip hop with pop and R&B, his music is a combination of his future and his past.

Bridge: Let’s start at the beginning. What is the story behind your stage name?

RBJ: My stage name stemmed from my main goal; to make money doing what I love the most in order to take care of my family. Also, Rich Homie Quan had a little influence on my choosing it. I kept my real name attached only because no one would call me by my last artist name, they would only call me James.

Bridge: It’s funny how people just decide what to call you whether you like it or not sometimes (laughs)

You mix Hip Hop with Pop and R&B, who would you say are your main influences in creating such eclectic music?

RBJ: My reason for ever wanting to do music stems from the love for Michael Jackson! As a young kid I didn’t know what music I’d be doing, all I knew is that I wanted to be like Mike!. My today influences come from people like Drake, The Weeknd, post Malone, Juice Wrld and artists of that nature

Bridge: I think everyone wanted to be like Mike at some point. The talent that man had was once in a lifetime!

Can you tell us a little about your songwriting process?

RBJ: My songwriting process is alot of me waiting to have that urge to write or make a song. I can’t really force it, I just get a spark, something tells me to start looking for a beat and then once I find the mood that my brain wants, I get to writing. It usually takes me 20 minutes for a whole song.

Bridge: Wow! I think any songwriter would be impressed with that. I love that you wait for the flow of it to come. So many people force it and the difference in the results are obvious.

What would you say has been the most difficult part of starting in the music business?

RBJ: The most difficult part is getting people to believe in you and in your music. You just get to a point where you just have to realize you can make someone support you. You just have to keep pushing on and believing in yourself and believing that one day your dream will be a reality.

Bridge: Such wise advice. I think I personally needed to hear that right now and I know other artists reading this will appreciate that!

So, where do you hope to take your music in 2021?

RBJ: “I need 40,000 people to see what I’m on” -Drake. I don’t care how big the fan base is I just want to gain as many people as possible who enjoys my music.

Bridge: Long term- what goals do you have for your career?

RBJ: I want to create generational wealth for my family tree.

Bridge: Come on, somebody! That will preach right there!

Fun question, if you could have been a part of writing any song in history, what song would it be?

RBJ: Michael Jackson Thriller! One of his biggest songs, and just being on that song, the whole world would have known who I was.

Bridge: Now I have that stuck in my head, thanks for that (laughs) Such a great song!

What do you think sets you apart from other young men in the industry?

RBJ: I’m a person who believes you can have whatever you want in this life. If you believe hard enough and work hard enough the atmosphere has no choice but to work in your favor.

Bridge: Again with truth! I can see you mentoring young artists in the future!

Alright the end of the road…If you had to pick one song to be the soundtrack of your life, what would it be?

RBJ: It’s on my new EP that I will be releasing this year so it’s not out yet. But I guess I would choose “Confessions“ “You Changed Me” and “Honestly
