Netflix’s upcoming Chronicles of Narnia movie has cast its first star. Based on a novel series by C.S. Lewis, The Chronicles of Narnia was first adapted for film in the form of the movie The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe in 2005. It was followed up by The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian in 2008 and The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader in 2010. Since then, Netflix has announced the development of a new Chronicles of Narnia movie, which will be directed by Barbie‘s Greta Gerwig.

As per Deadline, Netflix’s The Chronicles of Narnia movie has reportedly its first cast member. Said cast member is Louis Partridge. According to the source, Gerwig “has cast Partridge in her untitled Chronicles of Narnia project for Netflix.” The release did not specify what role Partridge will play, nor if his casting had been confirmed by Netflix.

If He Is A Pevensie, There Seems To Be One Logical Choice

If the info about Partridge is correct, the actor is the first star to be announced for the yet-untitled Narnia movie. Partridge is a 21-year-old British actor who is best known for playing Tewskbury in the Enola Holmes series. This background makes his casting make sense, as the young actor has already worked on a Netflix show. In addition to his work on Enola Holmes, Partridge’s other work includes roles in Pistol and this year’s Disclaimer. Partridge’s reported casting follows a Narnia movie trend of casting newcomers in the lead roles.

While the role that Partridge will play is yet to be announced, it seems his most likely part would be Peter. Peter is the eldest of the Pevensie children, and is in his 20s throughout the later books in the series. Peter is 13 years old when The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe begins, but Gerwig has previously established that she will not be starting from this book in her Narnia movies. Thus, Partridge could very well end up playing Peter in the series, as he is the appropriate age for the character’s appearance in most of the books.

Even if Gerwig’s Narnia begins with an earlier book, it is not out of the question that the film could change the age of Peter or another character to better suit Partridge. The previous Narnia film trilogy did this with Prince Caspian, who is 13 in the book series but played by then 26-year-old Ben Barnes. Throughout the development of the films, Gerwig has seemingly shown reverence for the Narnia books, so she might stay more faithful to Lewis’ character presentations, but if she follows the pattern of the past Chronicles of Narniainterpretations, she could offer a broader take.
