Bonner Black, emerging indie pop sensation with a Nashville twist, has recently released her debut full-length album, ‘Hopeless RomANTICS,’ a deeply personal journey through her life’s pivotal moments, blending her Southern roots with a contemporary indie pop sound.

At just 17, Bonner left her small town and first love to chase her dreams in Nashville, a move that inspired the track “What Goes Up.” This pivotal moment marked the beginning of a new chapter, setting the stage for her unique musical style. “That’s when everything changed,” Bonner recalls, emphasizing the significance of this life-altering decision.

Bonner’s Southern upbringing and classical ballet training seep into her music, adding a touch of Nashville storytelling and a danceable quality to even her slowest songs. “My writing is very ‘Nashville’ even on my most pop songs,” Bonner explains, highlighting her ability to blend genres seamlessly.

Working with producer Jake Ohlbaum, the album came together organically. Jake’s expert ability to translate Bonner’s ideas allowed her creativity to soar. Describing their collaboration, Bonner says, “Jake creates these musical beds for me to run around and play on,” showcasing the dynamic duo’s ability to push sonic boundaries. Bonner’s approach to songwriting is deeply personal, focusing on her unique experiences and trusting that like-minded listeners will connect with her music.

Beyond her music, Bonner is an advocate for songwriters and copyright law reform. Her involvement in lobbying for the Music Modernization Act has highlighted the value of music and the need for artists to diversify their income streams. “It really opened my eyes to how little the world values art,” Bonner reflects, emphasizing the importance of fighting for the rights of artists and songwriters.

With over 500 live shows under her belt (you read that right) Bonner’s performances have evolved to focus on storytelling and audience engagement, reminiscent of a cozy gathering in her living room. However, after catching a recent Molly Grace show at EXIT/IN, she’s considering refining her set. “She [Molly] had these hilarious, well-planned little bits throughout her set and you could tell that the show was POLISHED. I was so inspired by that,” she gushed “I might be digging back into my set and switching some things up.”

Looking ahead, Bonner is eager to continue exploring new musical horizons. “My aim is to live a life that feeds my curiosity and looks for inspiration so I continue to make fresh music that comes from the truest place in my heart,” she shares, emphasizing her commitment to authenticity and growth.

With ‘Hopeless RomANTICS,’ Bonner Black has firmly established herself as a fresh voice in the indie pop scene, blending heartfelt storytelling with infectious melodies. As she continues to push boundaries and connect with audiences, there’s no doubt that Bonner Black is on her way to becoming a Nashville household name.
