In a recent commercial for Chicken of the Sea, Jessica Simpson and her daughter Maxwell, age 11, share a humorous moment that nods to Simpson’s memorable mix-up from her reality TV days. The ad features them on a couch, with Simpson enjoying a packet of Chicken of the Sea tuna.

Maxwell curiously inquires about her mother’s snack, leading Simpson to explain, “It’s Chicken of the Sea, but actually tuna, not chicken.” Maxwell quips, “Who would ever mix that up?” Simpson, with a hint of defensiveness, assures, “Definitely not your mom,” followed by an awkward chuckle.

This interaction harks back to a classic scene from the 2003 MTV show “Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica,” where Simpson, then a singer and aspiring fashion designer, famously confused tuna for chicken while eating from a Chicken of the Sea can, questioning her then-husband Nick Lachey.

Simpson has humorously acknowledged similar mix-ups in the past. In 2017, when Whole Foods mistakenly stocked chicken salad with tuna, she tweeted supportively, “It happens to the best of us.” Again, in 2021, she chimed in on a lawsuit accusing Subway of using fake tuna in their products, tweeting to the chain, “It’s OK @SUBWAY. It IS confusing.”
