Elvis Biopic Starring Tom Hanks And Austin Butler Releasing June 24th

Must Read

We’re still obsessing over the trailer for the upcoming film Elvis, starring Austin Butler as the enigmatic star and Tom Hanks as infamous Colonel Tom Parker.

The Warner Brother’s film, which took over two years to make, is set to release June 24th and will be a theatrical release only.

Butler, who is 30 years old, has been more than candid about the overwhelming task of portraying the King of Rock. The actor stated, “When I began the process, I set out to get my voice to be identical. That instills fear. So that got the fire burning,” Butler said. “For a year before we started shooting, I was doing voice coaching.”

He goes on to say, “I watched as much as I could, over and over,” Butler said of studying the abundance of Presley’s films and concerts. “I feel such a responsibility to Elvis and to [ex-wife] Priscilla and [daughter] Lisa Marie, and all the people around the world who love him so much.”

Interestingly, the film features Butler’s voice for “Young Elvis” and then a blend of his and the King’s voice for when the older Elvis is portrayed.

It remains to be seen whether this film will rival the success of the 2005 Johnny Cash biopic, “Walk The Line,” but with Hanks and Butler at the helm, we’d say the chances are pretty good.
