Apnea Zone exists to raise awareness about underwater activity and to educate and encourage the world on the beauty of freediving.

Located in Dubai, this five star dive resort is a market leader in freediving and shows no signs of slowing down.

“Freediving is holding your breath as you swim underwater. It gives you absolute freedom underwater and allows you to observe and enjoy marine life in a completely natural way.”

-Apnea Zone

Freediving is such a beautiful activity that is gaining wide popularity in the world of water sports. Freediving is a lot easier and more fun than you might think so get in touch and begin your freediving education in Dubai with us! As an official Freediving Instructor Training Center, we offer courses from beginner to professional levels.

We recently spoke with Apnea Zone owner Bassel Ounah to ask him all about the company and its vision to bring freediving to the world…

Bridge: What’s the goal of your Company?

AZ: Our goal is to raise awareness about underwater activity and encourage more people to take up freediving as a hobby or competitive sport. We ensure we maintain the highest levels of safety while training our customers in the activity of their choice.

Bridge: What are the services/solutions or products offered by Your Company as par with the current industry standards? Tell us something about your upcoming products or services?

AZ: We provide four key services such as Freediving, Scuba Diving, Spearfishing, and Mermaid courses.

We organize corporate team events, underwater shows, and snorkeling trips. And conduct workshops on breathing techniques.

I recently discovered the exciting game of underwater hockey and might decide to make that part of our offerings in the future.

Bridge: How do you think technology is leading to changes in businesses? Do you feel it’s helping Your Company grow?

AZ: Technology not only allows us to reach people all over the world, but it has also made our teaching process more interactive.

We completed the preparatory portion of our training online during covid-19. We did presentations and deep dive visualization exercises to mentally prepare students before they arrived at camp.

This allowed students to begin their practical classes as soon as they arrived, which was beneficial to both local participants and those traveling from outside of Dubai.

We plan to make further use of technology to enhance participant experience and prepare them mentally and physically for their time underwater.

Bridge: Do you use innovative ideas to be unique?

AZ: Every student is unique. They come with different ideas, expectations and thought processes. We don’t use a “one size fits all” approach during training.

We focus on developing personal relationships and teaching them how to relax and improve their underwater skills in a safe environment.

Bridge: What keeps Your Company moving forward even during challenges?

AZ: All team members are passionate about what they do and are dedicated to participant safety and wellbeing.

Our constant pursuit of new and creative ways to provide exceptional service keeps us moving forward.

Bridge: What makes a team successful in your opinion?

AZ:  I believe that respect, communication and setting clear goals are crucial for the team’s success.

Bridge: How do you motivate your team to go the extra mile?

AZ: I lead by example, give people the opportunity to grow their skills, and provide them with constructive feedback to cut short their learning curve.

Bridge: How did you begin your career journey? Do you have some advice for beginners?

AZ: I was inspired by my passion and turned it into a career. I had to be patient while growing the business because it took a long time to see any significant results.

I recommend that newbies view failure as an opportunity to grow and learn.

Bridge: Would you like to say anything else to our viewers?

AZ: We tailor training to each participant’s needs, assisting them in breaking out of their comfort zone and progressing in a safe manner.

I’d like to see more people recognize the ocean as a part of mother nature and recognize the value of being connected to it.
