Americana rock and dark country singer Gunner & Smith is thrilled to release his new single “Gold” that is out now and featured exclusively on Americana UK.  “Gold is the third single he has released from his new album Hear You In My Head that will be released in September 16th

Gunner says, This is about the relationship of musicians to alcohol and how it’s so closely tied to what we do. Music and alcohol are linked and separating them is a challenge. It’s about struggling to find balance with it and seeing friends either find a way through it or struggle with it.

Hope and redemption. Philosophy and folklore. The music of Gunner & Smith has always been a collection of fiery elements, blending searing guitars, brawny rhythms and distinct folk-family vocals to produce tightly-knit rock anthems. Anchored by the solid songwriting of frontman Geoff Smith, Gunner & Smith has an ever-expanding sound that combines indie rock, alt-country and sizzling psych-Americana.

After a decade of touring Canada and internationally including stops in the USA, Korea, Germany, and the UK, Gunner & Smith is set to release its 3rd full length album Hear You In My Head. Having always recorded close to home in Saskatchewan this album was created in a much different way from Gunner & Smith’s past records. In August 2021 Smith flew South to work with producer Andrija Tokic (Alabama Shakes, Benjamin Booker) and a collection of talented session musicians at the Bombshelter Studio in East Nashville.

Over the following 6 days at Tokic’s analog studio Hear You in My Head was put to tape. The album was constructed around the steady performances of the rhythm section of Dave Raccine on drums and Jack Lawerence (The Greenhornes, The Raconteurs) on bass combined with layers of sound including guitars, dobro, pedal steel, and fiddle created by multi-instrumentalist John James Tourville (The Deslondes) and meletrone, organs, and pianos played by Peter Keys (Lynyrd Skynyrd). What resulted was a sound that is unmistakable Gunner & Smith, led by Smith’s gloomy baritone voice and introspective lyrics, but also a more nuanced collection of songs. Spanning from the steady deep driving opening track Hear You in My Head to the wide open expansive and downright hopeful Find Your Own Way that closes out the record. Choruses that surge with the power of 3 part harmonies like Townes and He Once Was a Good Man and more solitary sounding tracks like Something More To Give. Hear You In My Head is targeted to be released in September 2022.

“Gold” is out everywhere here.
