In the dynamic world of rock music, every band has a story, a unique identity that sets them apart. Enter Alabaster Stone (AS), a band that’s rapidly carving out its own niche in the industry with its distinctive sound and raw, heartfelt energy. Founded just three years ago as a solo project, the band has evolved into a cohesive unit, embodying a shared vision and a deep passion for music.

At the core of Alabaster Stone’s identity is its origin story. “It started as my solo venture,” lead vocalist and guitarist Jacob Lott explains. “I’d always been a guitarist and sang out of necessity.” This initial solo effort blossomed into a full-fledged band with the addition of drummer Nic Foster and bassist Brent Gibson. The chemistry was undeniable. “It was all so natural,” he reflects. “It didn’t feel right to call it ‘my band’ anymore. It was OUR band.”

The band’s name itself is steeped in personal history. “When I was a baby, my mother would sing this lullaby… ‘lay your bones on the Alabaster stones,'” said Lott. This line, remembered from childhood, sparked the inspiration for the band’s name during his college years.

The band’s sound is a unique fusion that’s both heavy and blues-based. “Imagine if Alice In Chains had a song featuring Slash.” It’s a sound for those heartbroken yet rebellious moments, a blend of emotional depth with a raw edge.

AS’s first EP, “Limerence,” is a journey through intense emotions and personal experiences. “It’s about the dangers of being enamored with someone,” the band shared. “A warning to young people: when you’re falling in love, be sure not to lose yourself.” The EP, which includes six tracks, narrates a story about a past relationship, with the exception of the last track, “Peace of Mind,” the band’s favorite to perform live.

The production of “Limerence” reflects the band’s commitment to authenticity. Recorded in a room over Jacob’s garage, the EP is a testament to their DIY ethic. “There’s an authenticity to it because we didn’t have to answer to any producers or executives,” he says. The guitar tones, a critical element of their sound, were meticulously crafted with Gibson guitars plugged into a Marshall DSL 100W head, following the guidance of legendary engineer Eric Valentine.

Looking ahead to 2024, Alabaster Stone is keen on building relationships within the music community. “We want to play with other bands/artists that share this passion for the music life,” the band states. Fans can look forward to seeing them at venues like the East Room, The 5 Spot, For the Record Music Hall, and The Fennec.

Alabaster Stone is more than just a band; it’s a collective expression of passion, a journey through the highs and lows of life, encapsulated in a sound that resonates with the soul. As they gear up for their next phase, one thing is clear: they are a band on the rise, ready to leave an indelible mark on the world of rock music.
